About me

I am a highly trained and experienced clinician.

Education

I earned my BA from Princeton University in 2003, with a major in public and international affairs and a minor in education.  I also earned a masters in clinical social work (MSW) from Smith College in 2006.

Experience

I have 17 years of post masters experience in fast paced and rigorous settings.  I began my career with seven years as a high school Interventionist, providing short and long term therapy to students in the school setting.  In this role I also led groups and ran prevention programming around numerous topics such as restorative justice, substance abuse, and diversity.

I then transitioned to the college population through work at Front Range Community College and then the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I worked for over 6 years.  At CU I developed and managed the Behavioral Health program, in which counselors assess and treat students alongside doctors in the primary care setting.  I supervised and trained numerous interns, fellows, and staff.  I saw traditional therapy clients at CAPS (the campus counseling center), where I also ran educational workshops and process groups.

Thus, I have extensive experience with crisis care, substance abuse, eating disorders, and the unique needs of GLBT youth and young adults.

In recent years, I have moved into the private practice setting.  I have strengthened my experience and knowledge in EMDR, to increase my effectiveness with trauma and other deep rooted challenges.

Training

I deeply enjoy learning and challenging myself to improve my clinical skills, and have had a strong commitment to that learning throughout my career.  My masters program gave me a strong foundation in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, then through work experience I earned my license in clinical social work (LCSW) in 2010.

Clinical modalities:  Over the years, I have received additional training and practiced in numerous additional clinical modalities and approaches, all of which I incorporate into my flexible and eclectic style of treatment.  These include: motivational interviewing, solution focused counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), among others.

Clinical issues:  I have received in depth training in the treatment of various conditions, including: insomnia, substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidality, sexuality, grief, and trauma.  I continually work to improve my awareness of systemic oppression and how it affects various groups, as well as how to support individuals in healing and embracing their own unique intersectional identities.

EMDR:  In 2019, I finished my training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  Training in this technique changed my clinical identity more than any other, as I was so inspired by its ability to help clients heal.  I found EMDR to be a great fit for my style and background, so sought to further increase my skills.  Through extensive professional development and consultation, I have earned full EMDRIA certification in this modality.
