I earned my BA from Princeton University in 2003, with a major in public and international affairs and a minor in education. I also earned a masters in clinical social work (MSW) from Smith College in 2006.
I have over 18 years of post masters experience in fast paced and rigorous settings. I began my career with seven years as a high school Interventionist, providing short and long term therapy to students in the school setting. In this role I also led groups and ran prevention programming around numerous topics such as restorative justice, substance abuse, and diversity.
I then transitioned to the college population through work at Front Range Community College and then the University of Colorado at Boulder, where I worked for over 6 years. At CU I developed and managed the Behavioral Health program, in which counselors assess and treat students alongside doctors in the primary care setting. I supervised and trained numerous interns, fellows, and staff. I saw traditional therapy clients at the campus counseling center, and also ran educational workshops and process groups. Through this work I gathered extensive experience with crisis care, substance abuse, eating disorders, and the unique needs of GLBT youth and young adults.
Six years ago, I sought training in EMDR to strengthen my ability to help clients work through trauma. I was so inspired by the healing that is possible through this approach that I shifted towards deeper and longer term therapy work, and private practice. I continually consult and gather more specialized skills to improve my clinical work. My dedication to ongoing study and consultation in EMDR and related techniques enables to me offer especially high quality clinical services.

Rhone the chocolate lab
Rhone is a certified Therapy Dog with Professional Therapy Dogs of Colorado. This organization trains handler and dog teams specifically for the mental health setting, and requires dogs to meet rigorous health, behavior, and temperament standards. Nonetheless, I understand completely when people would rather not have a dog in session and happily accommodate those preferences.
Rhone works with me two days a week in the office. He has a sunny and friendly personality, joyfully welcoming his clients each week. He brings calm non-judgmental energy to the therapy work. In his free time he enjoys any outdoor activity that involves water, snow, or mud -- and taking long naps.
I deeply enjoy learning and challenging myself to improve my clinical skills, and have had a strong commitment to that learning throughout my career. My masters program gave me a strong foundation in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, then through work experience I earned my license in clinical social work (LCSW) in 2010.
Clinical modalities: Over the years, I have received training and practiced in numerous clinical modalities and approaches, all of which I incorporate into my flexible and eclectic style of treatment. These include: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), among others.
Clinical issues: I have received in depth training in the treatment of various conditions, including: insomnia, substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicidality, sexuality, grief, and trauma. I continually work to improve my awareness of systemic oppression and how it affects various groups, as well as how to support individuals in healing and embracing their own unique intersectional identities.
EMDR: In 2019, I finished my training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This technique is a great fit for my style and background, and is now more central to my clinical identity more than any other. EMDR continues to amaze and inspire me with its ability to help clients heal from trauma and let go of old and unhelpful beliefs about themselves. Through extensive professional development and consultation, I have earned full EMDRIA certification in this modality, and continue to maintain my commitment to professional growth.
